What is SATA ?
SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment.
It is the most common interface for connecting SSD (Solid State Drives). SATA SSDs connect to the host system using the SATA interface used by most magnetic disks. SATA is a widely used interface protocol that basically connects host bus adapters to mass storage devices like HDDs and SSDs.
SATA first appeared in 2003. Since then, SATA has gotten faster as drives have gotten faster.
The SATA interface was originally designed for magnetic disks with latency in the millisecond range. It provided 150 Mbps data throughput against 133 Mbps parallel ATA (PATA).
Later, SATA-II and SATA-III gained significant momentum, reaching a speed of 6 gigabytes per second and a bandwidth throughput of 600 Mbps.
