The northbridge is a microprocessor found inside computers that links the system's central processing unit (CPU) to other essential parts. RAM, also known as system memory, the frontside bus (FSB), PCI Express devices, and the AGP card are some examples of these parts. The southbridge, which manages the remaining parts of the computer, is connected to the northbridge as well.

The northbridge is the major driver while the CPU serves as the computer's primary engine. By guiding data to and from the Processor, it behaves as a traffic policeman. Therefore, the computer's total efficiency is impacted by the northbridge chip's effectiveness. Since it regulates the data transfer to and from the system memory, the northbridge is also known as the Memory Controller Hub (MCH) on Intel computers.
