What is Cryptocurrency ERC20 ?

ERC20 is short for Ethereum Request for Comment. In Turkish, it means Ethereum Request for Comment, although it doesn't exactly match its meaning. ERC20 is a technical standard for tokens published on the Ethereum blockchain and provides a list of rules that all Ethereum-based tokens must follow. These include how tokens can be transferred, how transactions are confirmed, how users can access data about a token, and the total token supply. The protocol is necessary to ensure compatibility between the many different tokens issued on Ethereum.

When an ERC-20 token is created, 6 mandatory functions are required. These are total supply, balance, transfer, source of transfer, confirmation, remaining balance.

ERC20 tokens, like other cryptocurrencies, are blockchain-based assets that have value and can be sent and received. The difference is that instead of running on their own blockchain, these tokens are issued on the Ethereum network. This means they are hosted by Ethereum addresses and sent using Ethereum transactions.

Some of the most well-known ERC20 tokens are listed below.

  • 1 - EOS (EOS)
  • 2 - TRON (TRX)

  • 8 - Uniswap (UNI)
  • 9 - chiliZ (CHZ)
